What to consider when customizing a RF Connector

There are thousands of RF connector you can easily find on the market, and you will be dazzled if you take the custom one into consideration, Connector interface, gender, Orientation straight / Right Angle, plating material, etc., what you need to consider when customizing a RF connector.

Connector Interface: not all manufacturers are excel in all type of connector interface, for example, a manufacturer excel in SMA interface, may not be familiar with Low PIM Connector interface, a manufacturer excel in MCX, MMCX SMB interface, may be difficult on develop SMP interface, although they are all miniature interface. If you can find a manufacturer good at all full series of RF Connector interface, Congratulation! You will save a lot of energy, time and money!

Gender: There are 4 types of gener, Male, Female, RP Male and RP Female. For PCB connector, if there will be a lot of mating cycle in application, a Female pin will be used as Male pin will be more likely to be broken after many times mating.

Connector dimension: If you are working with a RF Connector factory, connector dimension can be customized based on your project, no matter you need a robust large dimension or small combact design, it won't add additional cost on your project and you can get a much better solution than just pick one up from the market.


Termination type: Cable connector will have Crimp type, Clamp or field termination type, solder type, PCB connector have through hole type, surface mount type, and center pin have round post type, flat tap type.

Panel Mount feature: You can custom a 2 hole flange mount, 4 hole flange mount, Bulkhead, press fit, with mount method with front mount & rear mount.
