What is a Low PIM Dummy Load

Dummy Load is a device used to simulate an electrical load during testing. In an RF System a dummy load is used to simulate an antenna. By using a dummy load instead of an actual antenna, the transceiver can be tested and configured without radiating radio waves.
The Dummy Load is selected in a way so that it has a similar impedance to the real device that will be connected to the RF System. Not using a dummy load and leaving the port open, can result in some unwanted reflections which can damage the RF System. Also, using a real antenna in the testing phase can result in some unwanted transmission in the lab which will interfere with other devices and technologies being tested.

How to choose a Dummy Load at lower cost

There is no need to specify a number of tight spec parameters when you need a power Directional Coupler for a particularly stringent requirement. For example, achieving a large bandwidth with excellent isolation is always accompanied by increases in circuit loss and overall size. Contrastingly, extremely broadband devices can be made in very small packages, but only at the expense of insertion loss and isolation.

In some applications, it is possible for several parameters to be important. In other applications, only one parameter may be considerably significant while others are not. You can lower your demands, and your cost, by analyzing what parameters must be met while understanding others that can be ignored.
